Cavern Diver

The Cavern Diver course introduces the experienced open-water diver to the procedures and techniques necessary to safely enter an overhead environment. Students will make limited penetrations into an underwater cave system, always remaining within sight of the entrance. This course is an entry-level program for those interested in cave diving and is also a safety program for open-water divers interested in safely exploring springs, sinks, and wrecks. The course covers cavern diving equipment and protocols, specialized propulsion techniques, streamlining and equipment configuration, trim and buoyancy control, emergency procedures, etc. The course includes classroom and open-water dive sessions followed by certification dives (4) in north Florida.

The Cavern course is extremely popular for a variety of reasons such as the close proximity of excellent cavern and cave diving sites in north Florida, the applicability of the techniques covered to wreck diving and the precision buoyancy control techniques that carry over into improved performance in open-water diving.
